I have a deep fascination with American politics that originated during my days attending American schools in Singapore, South Korea and Saudi Arabia. I’ve been a political reporter in Arizona and now Washington, D.C. for over a decade now. I recently won the General Excellence award for “Leading Washington’s tech policy conversations” awarded by SABEW, for which our team competed against multiple international news outlets.
Three key traits set me apart as a journalist: my versatility as a reporter and editor – I’m comfortable covering quick, breaking stories, as well as taking on longer investigative pieces and scoops; my decade of experience in Washington covering relevant issues like tech and economic policy as well as campaign finance; and third, my ability to quickly build sources in industry and across political parties to land high-profile interviews frequently.
Throughout my years as a political reporter in Washington, including working for Mother Jones, the Washington Examiner and FedScoop as well as my recent experience in India with The Hindu, I have deftly built relationships with elected officials and policy experts across the globe and unearthed impactful stories regarding campaign finance, economic policy and Big Tech movements.
I’ve broken news on a number of occasions, including making the front page of the Boston Globe for discovering Elizabeth Warren’s unexpected Facebook advertisements, which predicted her 2020 presidential run. I reported widely-shared scoops on big changes at the U.S. Elections Commission and Jeb Bush’s Super PAC getting a historic fine for foreign influence in the 2016 election.
During the 2020 election cycle my stories on the economy were pushed by both the Biden and Trump campaigns, and I frequently interviewed top economists and officials in both camps. I hope to bring my zeal for breaking stories and a balanced approach to reporting at POLITICO.
On the tech beat in particular I’ve had a slew of scoops in the past couple of years including: Congress experimenting with ChatGPT for the first time, broken news on multiple tech and AI bills introduced in Congress, infighting and leadership struggles within CISA with a focus on Director Jen Easterly, and a deep dive into the state of misinformation and online speech in the age of A.I.
Bringing together key newsmakers in politics, public policy, industry and civil society and interviewing them at public events has been another important initiative of mine and I’ve put together events and conferences on tech and politics which have driven the conversation around challenges with DeepFakes, Big Tech, and A.l. in Delhi as well as DC.
Additionally, as a personal pursuit, I co-created Generative Series in Washington last year – a fun live events series at the nexus of AI, art and culture. The series has resulted in multiple sold out programs hosted in the past two years by the Phillips Collection and the LINE Hotel with notable speakers from Meta, Amazon, and the Smithsonian, as well as former Miss DC and local artists.
Let’s connect further if my work and ambitions have resonated with you.
